Lessons
Monthly fees:
Half-hour lessons - $200 (beginners and young students only)
45 minute lessons - $250
Hour lessons - $300
Lessons are payable by check, cash, Venmo, or Zelle at the beginning of each month or in full for each term.
Forty-five minute lessons are recommended for most students until they are more advanced. Weekly lessons take place at my studio in Prescott.
Parents are welcome to observe lessons (no siblings, please) or wait in the hall outside. For those who prefer to wait outside the studio during the lesson, I have a shelf of children's books and wifi. We also have two small, friendly dogs who will greet you when you arrive. Please let me know if you would prefer I keep them in the office with my husband during your lessons.
Periodic group lessons are included and encouraged for all students taking 45-minute or hour-long lessons. These are great opportunities to learn from each other, play together, practice performing, and do a bit more music theory. (Dedicated music theory instruction is also available for a fee. Please ask if you are interested.)
Recitals are also included for everyone and generally take place near the end of each term. (Accompanist fees are extra.) More advanced students might have their own recital or half recital shared with another advanced student.
Regular practicing is expected from each student, with a goal of six days a week. (I recommend taking one day a week completely off when you don’t touch your instrument at all, even for fun. I learned this from Heidi Castleman, my teacher at Eastman.) You get out of this what you put in, and there are simply no shortcuts in learning to play. The farther you go, the more fun you will have! I don’t hound my students or scold them: we all have busy weeks when we don’t get to everything we meant to, and you’re in charge of your own progress. However, I have found it necessary a few times in my teaching career to end lessons with students who don’t practice for weeks on end. It just doesn’t make sense to pay a month’s tuition to learn one short tune! So you do your part and I’ll do mine, and we’ll all enjoy the process a whole lot more. Thanks!
